Places of Interest

Degraves Street

Just across Flinders Lane from Centre Place, bustling Degraves Street was one of the first Melbourne 'laneways' to make such a ruckus. Join the happy throng, which includes students and shoppers, tourists and lunchtime workers, on this pedestrian walkway linking the city's fashion precinct with Flinders Street Station.

Hosier Lane

Walk down the famous bluestone laneway and admire the street art that has made the Melbourne urban art scene known across the globe. Take in the dizzying array of colours, characters and shapes created by local and international artists alike. Pick out everything from stencils and paste-ups to murals and installations. Take a wander on your own or join one of the popular walking tours to get some background on the artists and their work. Take a detour round into Rutledge Lane and explore the work lining the walls, windows and wheelie bins of this sister 'gallery'.

Royal Arcade

The Royal Arcade has provided an undercover shopping link between Melbourne's Bourke Street Mall, Little Collins Street and Elizabeth Street since 1869.

The two giant statues of Gog and Magog have struck the hour of Gaunt’s clock, on the hour, since 1892, and the arcade has long been known for its collection of quality boutiques and stores.

A walk through the arcade tempts with gifts and jewellery, cafes and chocolate shops, Russian dolls and magic spells.

Queen Victoria Markets

Queen Victoria Market is much more than the city’s fresh-food shopping mecca – it’s a historic landmark, a tourist attraction and a Melbourne institution.

The market is open five days a week, with Sunday taking on a carnival atmosphere as entertainers delight the crowds. Guided tours highlight the market’s food, heritage, culture, shopping and history.
